Education and the future
In the English class we discussed the evolution and some fundamental changes in Education – From a privilege to a fundamental human right. And we asked for student’s opinions on the following:
Do you think
the slogan DO NOT LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND (from the educational campaign related to
the SDG - 4 Education) is a reality or a goal?
How do you imagine school education will be like in a near future?
Here are some of the opinions they shared.
I think it is a goal,
because in many countries, for example in Africa, not everyone can go to school
or must walk many kilometres. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of
exploitation of children for labour and this prevents them from being able to
go to school.
I think that
education will improve in time. This is supposed to be the objective. Technology
will be more and more advanced, and I even think that one day students will not
even have to write by hand anymore, but on tablets and computers and even other
things they will probably invent.

DO NOT LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND is a goal that
we all have to work together to achieve, because that is the only way to
improve our world. In a near future, we envisioned a fairer teaching model, in
which students demonstrate their abilities in various ways with both practical
and theoretical activities, leaving the old question and answer method to the
past, showing the student that grades are not the most important thing, but instead
their development as a productive person for modern society, which goes along
with the development of technologies.
The teaching method will also be
different. Teachers would not only be based
on the teaching model imposed by the General Board of Education, they would
adapt the teaching method to each class, making the student interested in
learning.
Finally, another big change will be the
introduction of the student to the job market. Students would try out various
jobs and learn the ropes. This would give the students confidence in choosing
what they wanted to do in the future and this way they would do something that
they were really good at.

I believe it’s a goal. Many
students are unable to keep up, sometimes not even being their own fault. This
is a goal that we need to achieve.
I imagine [school] it’ll be
pretty much the same as nowadays, except that technologies and the internet
would be used more than they are currently.

Rodrigo Gomez
For us the
slogan DO NOT LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND is a goal because there is still plenty of
people who were left behind for not having the possibility of sustaining the
costs that the internet requires.
Well, the
school will improve and at some point everyone will have access to all learning
tools and the books will be replaced by e-book so, in conclusion, school will
go through a big change and technology will start to be more present too.
Margarida Pinteus and Matilde Costa
In our opinion, this slogan is a goal, because
in reality there are still people who are socially excluded, in terms of their
own loneliness, mental illness, etc.
We may come to use only technology as a means of
study. Nowadays we use sheets, notebooks, pens etc. In the future, we’ll have a
huge availability and a massive use of [learning] technology.
In the near future, we hope that we will only
use technological means in education.
